Same Vignette Two different looks

If you notice in the above two photos I used the exact same home décor with a few changes.

In each of the photos you see the following, a come gather at our table wooden sign, an antique bottle with sprigs of white flowers, a mini hydrangea in a bronze container on an antique tray with a black place mat underneath. What has changed? Did you “Eye Spy” as we call it from our earlier blogs, the differences?

PS: Did also notice how we also mixed metals? For more on mixed metals read our blog on just that, mixed metals.

What are the differences?

The main and only difference is the color of the Expressions in Glass products. The first photo above has the boxed heart and the letters “GOD” in platinum, for us that means love God. The second photo above has the gold heart and the letters X and O, for us that means love, hugs and kisses.

Are you able to see how strikingly different each of those vignettes look? Did you notice how they both look just as good in the vignette? I found that the gold and platinum letters will fit easily with Farmhouse, Modern Farmhouse, Shabby Chic, Industrial, Modern Industrial, Boho Chic, Traditional, French County, Rustic and even Primitive home décor.

Versatility and Vignettes

I hope with this vignette example you can learn how to create your own unique vignette with your own personal style. The goals of today’s blog are: 1.) I am only asking you about number 6 because Expressions in Glass could help by incorporating our hearts, letters, numbers, emoji’s and symbols in your art gallery proposal display, especially since EIG glass blocks are individual beautiful hand cast works of art.

The artistry is clearly visible and an art gallery would be the perfect place to personalize your proposal.

I also love some of the other ideas they mentioned: include your children and pets. I think having your children and pets help with the proposal presents a very personalized experience. The children could hold an art block and the pet could have a sign tied loose around his neck. Wouldn’t that be just adorable?

The list.com recently did a story about: The Most Over-The-Top Marriage Proposals Ever

I have to say my favorite over the top proposal was the 365-day proposal. For me this was truly amazing, heartwarming and creative. I also have to say the cost was mostly time involved to make the daily videos. The end proposal could have been any destination making this creative and depending on the location you choose fairly inexpensive.

I definitely see how EIG could have helped spell out words throughout the 365-day proposal. I think that would be a cool updated modern spin on the 365-day proposal, don’t you?

Best Proposal Ever or Too Over the Top?

For me personally, as long as the proposal is heartfelt and sincere, I think that's what truly matters. Every couple has their own unique relationship, special places and adventures they have shared together. I think the proposal should reflect those shared experiences and special places.

I definitely see many perfect places to personalize your own at home proposal using our artisan made glass blocks. Especially since number one is an old school dinner proposal followed by involve your pet or make a slideshow movie. The last two mentioned here are making a graffiti wall or a backyard picnic proposal. Ok, so maybe we can’t hang our art glass blocks on a wall, so the graffiti wall is out but we can help with the backyard picnic proposal.

Wedding Wire.com wrote an article titled 37 Romantic Ways to Propose According to Real Couples . The common theme and what stood out to me was that the proposal places were familiar places the couple frequented or involved shared hobbies. A proposal at your favorite coffee shop, at home, in a bookstore, with your pets, on a hike or a vacation. I think the main point is to focus on what you love to do together and common interests and incorporate those into the proposal.

Mixed Metals - Silver & Gold

Mixed metals, yay or nay?

Living Spaces.com recently did a story about the 19 trends for 2021 declaring styles that

“are in” and styles that “are out”.

Personally, I happen to not agree with everything that Living Spaces deemed “out of style”

What I noticed immediately and found interesting is that in the very first photo they set the mixed metals scene. The designer had mixed various metals, iron, brass etc. and not only the actual metal itself was mixed but they had varying degrees of gold and black tones

The second thing I noticed right away was under category: “IN: Transitional Decor (OUT: Industrial Style)”

The interior designer mixed both silver and Gold. Did you "I-Spy" or as we call it "Eye Spy" that too?

The designer chose a giraffe whose legs are of a silver tone along with a globe that has a gold base. In addition, the metal artwork on the wall appears to have an ever so slightly rose tint to it. Did you "Eye Spy" that also?

Do the Latest Décor Trends change your mind on mixing metals, specifically Silver and Gold?

Did you "Eye Spy" the gold toned light fixtures on the wall? What about the chandelier with the silver-chrome coloring? This decorator demonstrates beautifully how you can mix metals and still have a very nice cohesive space. We love that they call the style of the room old world influences, do you love that decor style and name as much as we do?

Do you stick to trends or your own unique blend of styles?

For us personally, we have a mish mash of Industrial Modern, Traditional, Contemporary and Primitive home décor. Somehow we have managed to blend antiques into our home décor along with our art blocks. Our glass art blocks are so versatile and they really do mix nicely with any style of home décor. Interchangeable Letters and Numbers & How to "Eye Spy" the difference

This week’s blog will be short and sweet, the exact opposite of how we wish our weekends would be.....right??

Did you know you can use some of our letters and numbers interchangeably?

The Letters M & W

The letter “M” can also be a “W” and the “W” can also be an “M” simply by turning either one upside down.

How to "Eye Spy" the difference

There is no difference, since we are utilizing the same mold for the letter "M" and the letter "W"

The Letters Z & N

The letter “Z” can be an “N” and the “N” can be a “Z” simply by turning either one on their side.

How to "Eye Spy" the difference

The letter “N” has a notch upper left top corner and the letter “Z” does not have the notch in the upper left top corner.

The Letters C & U

The letter “C” can be a U and the letter “U” can be a “C” simply by turning either one on their side.

How to "Eye Spy" the difference

The letter ”C” is rounded at the top end of the upper part of the “C” and the letter “U” comes to more of a point

in the upper top left hand side of the "U".

An Interchangeable Letter and Number?

In our product line you can interchange the Letter “I” & the Number “1”

How, you may ask?

The way the "i" is structured and designed , without the dot, lends itself nicely to be interchanged with the number “1”.

Neither the “I” nor the “1”would need to be turned sideways or upside down.

How to "Eye Spy" the difference

The number “1” is shorter in length than the letter “I” and is slightly visibly noticeable to the discerning eye.

The Numbers 6 & 9

The number “6” and the number “9” are interchangeable simply by turning either one upside down.

How to "Eye Spy" the difference

The number “6” has a slightly smaller opening than the number “9”.

Love History?

For fun we used the word "Eye Spy"

There is also a origin and history of the term "I Spy" is short for I spy with my little eye.

History of the Hashtag, who knew…

Did you know the Smithsonian magazine did a story on the hashtag?

I sure didn’t.. Here is an excerpt from the story

On August 23, 2007, when technology developer and self-described “hash godfather” Chris Messina suggested using the pound sign as an indicator to group tweets around a common name.

“[H]ow do you feel about using # (pound) for groups. As in #barcamp [msg]?” he tweeted his followers.

History of the emoji, wow.. Really???

The first intentional use of emoticons happened soon after, when Puck, an American satirical magazine, included a small piece on 'Typographical Art' in the issue published on 30 March 1881. What’s the newest edition to our product line?

These are exciting times at Expressions in Glass. We are very honored to announce and formally introduce our newest addition to our product line… Key up music…. Just kidding…

Did you notice we snuck this new product onto our website before this blog was released?

We are pleased to bring to you our newly designed and created product, the Christian Cross.

Our cross is meant to be perfectly imperfect. We designed this to be a little rugged and not so perfect and symmetrical. We hope you love our cross design as much as we do.

Isn’t our Christian Cross just a beautiful work of glass art? We certainly hope you love the newest member of our product line as much as we do. We are beyond ecstatic about our Christian Cross and we hope you are too.

Why did we feel the cross should be our newest product in our Expressions in Glass product line?

Expressions in Glass founders share a love of God and helping others. We want to share that love and inspiration with all of you through our newest addition to our product line.

Who Are The Current Owners?

How did we first discover Love Letters now known as Expressions in Glass?

At the time we discovered Love Letters, the sculptural glass blocks were being created and produced by renowned artist and sculptor Edward Merritt and were being sold in a not for profit retail store in Berks County, Pennsylvania.

How did we become owners of Love Letters?

Sallie approached Edward Merritt to see if he would be interested in selling the Love Letters line to her and Patrick since Edwards artistic talents had led him in a different artistic direction. Ed decided he liked our plan and chose us as the right buyers for Love Letters. Part of the reason was our mission, which we will get to later in this blog.

Why did we decide to change the name?

Since Love Letters could lead people to believe we only sold items related to love we realized you could express yourself, hence the name of our company became Expressions in Glass LLC. We feel that name truly embodies the philosophy behind our product line; express yourself and express what you love with our artisan made product line.

As you may or may not know our product line consists of numbers, letters, symbols, emoji’s etc. we felt that the possibilities for what you could do with Expressions in Glass was infinite. We wanted the name to reflect the endless possibilities for our products. With our letters you can spell things like a baby’s name or anyone’s name really, even your pet’s name. You can get letters for anyone’s initials, your street address or use our numbers for tabletop décor or your street number. Oh and you can even use our numbers for special occasion dates like birthdays, anniversaries, sobriety recognition and engagements or weddings.

Our Mission

Our Expressions in Glass LLC mission is to remain deeply rooted in our local community as well as to eventually donate a portion of our profits to local and national charities.

On a more personal note, Patrick and Sallie both have a strong religious background and believe in honoring God and tithing .
